The “Casa do Montado” exhibition was designed to preserve and enhance the unique characteristics of this 19th Century building. Located in the Historic Center of Évora, the exhibit comprises 12 rooms and two separate outdoor spaces.
Information about the Montado, cork oak agroforest, is displayed in 7 rooms dedicated to the following themes:
- The Mediterranean Forest – What this forest is and what distinguishes it
- Fauna and Flora – The biodiversity of the cork oak forest is one of its greatest strengths
- The Montado – Its cultural and ethnographic heritage
- Cork Stripping – An ancient craft in extinction
- The Cork Factory – From tree to wine stopper
- The Estate – An agroforestry socio-economic unit
- The Ecosystem – Agroforestry secret lives
The remaining spaces are used for the exhibition store, with traditional and handcrafted products, auditorium/multi-purpose room and a cafeteria with terrace and balcony.
